Japanese x Javanese
2022 | Colored paper on cardboard
Language is one of important components that shape human civilization. To be able to adapt to a new environment it is a must to understand the language used in the place and also its meaning. And Japanese is a unique language because it has its own letters. Just like Japanese, Javanese language, which is one of the regional languages in Indonesia, has its own letters called Javanese script (Javanese letters). Unfortunately, the Javanese script itself is rarely used in everyday life. The work above contains the words “ひので”(hinode) which means sunrise and “ꦱꦸꦫꦸꦥ꧀” (surup) which means sunset. Using paper quilling technique I try to describe the beautiful meaning of simple words with paper on paper.
