DONG WU SHI JIE: ANIMAL WORLD(動物世界)
A Video Work|2017
Through an enclosed communication embedded in its progression, DONG WU SHI JIE: ANIMAL WORLD invites audiences to rethink, together with their own experiences and memories, the heritage of history, the agreement of communities, and the domain of institutions. Being lost in between the surreal world presented and the reality around them, “DONG WU SHI JIE: ANIMAL WORLD” questions audience whether they are able to connect with any fragmentation in his or her alternative circulation, while functioning as a warning, as well, to seek for the realization in between emptiness and awareness.
ARTIST
Able Zhang
Able Zhang is a contemporary artist who lives in Tokyo, Japan and considers his art life span as a constant process of discourse. Zhang’s practice is mainly addressing issues regarding art criticism, individuality and collectivity, fictional identity, institutional critique, and so on. Born in Wuhan, China and educated in the United States and the United Kingdom, where he received BA and MFA in Fine Art, Zhang has now come to reside in Japan to discover other alternative possibilities of understanding in contemporary art. Through a compression of past, present, and future, Zhang’s work examines the possibility of human sublimity ― the system that people intimately heed and respond to. Zhang’s enthusiasm is engaged by the questions of how this world is interpreted through collective consciousness and how his ideas activate people to rethink what they identify with.
