東京都では、外国籍住民や国際的なバックグラウンドを持つ住民の人口が増加し、「内なる国際化」が進んでいます。この傾向は特に足立区でも顕著であり、区内のNPO法人では多様な文化的背景を持つ住民を積極的に支援する動きが見られます。このような現状に対し、「イミグレーション・ミュージアム・東京」（IMM東京）では、子どもたちに向けて文化的多様性への理解を深めることを目的として、アート・エデュケーション・プログラムを実施しています。

2024年度は、足立区の小学校、中学校の部活動を対象にアートを通じて文化的多様性を学ぶアート・エデュケーション・プログラムを企画しました。小学校では、小学5年生2クラス・小学6年生3クラスを対象に計5日間の実施しました。中学校では、美術部の協力のもと、部活動の時間にアーティストと通い、計4日間にわたり実施しました。

In Tokyo, the population of residents with overseas roots and backgrounds has been steadily increasing, propelling the city’s journey towards a culturally diverse community. This trend is evident in Adachi City, where organizations have started projects supporting the growing number of residents from diverse cultural backgrounds. In response,Immigration Museum Tokyo(IMM Tokyo) aimed to cultivate an understanding of multicultural societies by creating a learning experience through art. This initiative encouraged children to reflect on their identities and daily lives through meaningful exchanges, connecting these experiences to the future.

In 2024, continuing from the previous years, IMM Tokyo organized the Art Education Program for elementary schools and a junior high school in Adachi City. The program focused on learning about cultural diversity through art. At the elementary schools, we conducted the program for a whole day, targeting two 5th-grade classes and three 6th-grade classes. At the junior high school, we implemented the program over four days during the club activity period of the school’s art club.

小学校では、各クラスの生徒たちと1時間目から5時間目まで1日を通したアートな冒険に挑戦しました！4つのステップを通して、自分にとっての「いい場所」とはどんな場所なのかを考えたプログラムです。

①想像力と音楽を使った身体を動かすワークショップ
②アートコミュニケーターによる対話型鑑賞
③海外ルーツのアーティストによる創作ワークショップ
④身体と音楽を使った1日を振り返るディスカッション

In the elementary schools, students in each class participated in a full-day art adventure from the first to the fifth period. Through the following four steps, they explored the idea of what a “good place” means to them:

1. an introductory workshop that explores body movement through imagination and music,
2. a dialogue-based art appreciation session led by art communicators,
3. an art workshop facilitated by an artist with overseas roots, and
4. a concluding discussion using body movement and music.

中学校のプログラムでは、3人のアーティストとともに4日間のプログラムを実施しました。アーティストそれぞれの興味や自国の文化を深掘りしていく中で「文化の万華鏡」をテーマとしたワークショップを開催しました。1日目に制作したパスポートをもとに2日目からは、手を一緒に動かして、さまざまな表現手法を体験しました。

At the junior high school, the four-day program was held together with three artists. As each artist delved into their interests and the culture of their own country, they led workshops under the theme of “Cultural Kaleidoscope.” Starting with creating their travel journal in the form of a “passport” on the first day, students engaged hands-on in various expressive techniques from the second day onward.

本プログラムは、多様なバックグラウンドを持つIMM東京の事務局のスタッフ、アート・コミュニケーターのみなさん、海外ルーツのアーティスト、市民リサーチャー「IMMねいばーず」、足立区職員のみなさん、そして実施校の先生方をはじめとする、たくさんの方々とミーティングや現地リサーチを重ね、実現に至りました。

This program was made possible through numerous meetings and on-site research conducted by IMM Tokyo with people from diverse backgrounds, including staff members, art communicators, artists, citizen researchers known as “IMM Neighbors,” Adachi City officials, and the dedicated teachers of the participating schools.
