BUoY
The ruins of what was once a former bowling alley on the second floor and a public bathhouse in the basement were renovated and reopened as an art center in October 2017. The second floor houses the BUoY Cafe, a gallery for art exhibitions and a rehearsal space. The basement stretches 300m2, hosting mainly theater and dance performances. This space presents cutting-edge art under the theme of “creating encounters with ‘otherness’” at the intersection of various genres, including theatre, dance, poetry, architecture, food, film and contemporary art.
Location: 49-11 Senju-Nakacho, Adachi-ku, Tokyo 120-0036.
Access: 6-minute walk from Exit 1 of Kitasenju Station on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line, Hibiya Line, JR Joban Line, or Tobu Skytree Line; 8-minute walk from the West Exit.
Nakacho House
Located in the Senju Nakacho area, this beautiful Japanese house was built before World War II and opens onto a lush green garden, making for a deeply emotional space. This space is operated as a cultural salon by the local town project “Art Access Adachi: Downtown Senju - Connecting through Sound Art”. The space is open to the public regularly from Saturday to Monday and on public holidays; for this exhibition, Nakacho House will also be open on Fridays and will exhibit video works by Shigeaki Iwai (Artist and Director of IMM Tokyo).
